Some studies show that, walnuts can significantly decrease blood cholesterol. Walnuts contain rich polyunsaturated fatty acids. Walnuts can also help keep blood vessels healthy and elastic. Almonds and some other nuts, also appear to have a similar effect. Eating almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, pistachio nuts and walnuts, may reduce heart disease risks. However, all nuts contain high calories. Eating too much nuts may also lead to overweight.
Some foods (like margarine, orange juice, yogurt) may contain fortified plant steroids. These plant steroids can help block cholesterol absorption, but they do not disrupt vitamins absorption.
