Fresh Cooking

Compared to processed foods, fresh foods should be better choices, because they contain less sodium and fat. Fresh foods also often have more vitamins, minerals, fiber and flavors.

If possible, you should choose various fresh fruits: such as apples, oranges, bananas, apricots and berries. You can also add low-sugar frozen or canned fruits.

As for fresh vegetables, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots and spinach are often good choices. You can also add low-sodium frozen or canned vegetables (such as tomato or vegetable soups).

Dairy products should be low-fat or fat-free, such as reduced-fat milk, yogurt, buttermilk and cheese.
